Question

My child has many itchy red bumps on their body that have been there for a long time. What could be causing the red bumps on my child’s body?

Answer

There are many possibilities for red bumps on a baby’s body. The most common is urticaria, which occurs after eating certain foods or taking certain medications, resulting in sudden, widespread, large blisters resembling hives and accompanied by itching. If red bumps appear after a fever, they could be measles, rubella, or scarlet fever. If they are blister-like, they might be impetigo or chickenpox. If large patchy red rashes appear repeatedly over a long period, it may be considered eczema or systemic lupus erythematosus.
