Question

Doctor, the newborn baby is always sleepy and vomiting. What could be the cause of these symptoms?

Answer

Newborns typically sleep for 20 to 22 hours a day, waking up for about 3 to 4 hours during the day. If a child does not wake up, remains asleep, or sleeps for longer periods, it may be considered excessive sleepiness. It’s normal for newborns to spit up milk after feeding, which is known as regurgitation. However, if there is frequent vomiting or if the baby vomits 3 to 4 times a day or more, it can be diagnosed as newborn vomiting.
