Question

A newborn has been diagnosed with pathological jaundice and has been discharged after receiving treatment for hemolytic jaundice. However, a recurrence has occurred. How should it be handled?

Answer

If a newborn’s pathological jaundice recurs after treatment, it is recommended to take the child to a regular hospital’s pediatric department for further evaluation. Generally, if the bilirubin index exceeds 10, treatment should be considered. Blue light therapy is currently recognized as the fastest and least side-effect treatment method. At the same time, it is suggested to increase the child’s water intake, encourage frequent feeding to promote excretion, which helps to reduce jaundice. Additionally, appropriate sun exposure can also help improve the jaundice condition.
