Question

My baby started having diarrhea after eating porridge at four and a half months old, with diarrhea 10-12 times a day. We’ve visited the hospital several times, and the doctor said there is inflammation. How long should a baby continue to use diarrhea formula milk before switching to regular milk?

Answer

Diarrhea can cause intestinal damage in babies, leading to lactase deficiency and resulting in lactose intolerance. As lactase recovery takes at least one week, it is recommended to maintain a lactose-free diet for at least one week. The method is to replace one of the child’s daily milk feedings with lactose-free formula milk, observe the stool for diarrhea, if there is no diarrhea, continue using it for 3-5 days before replacing another feeding, and continue to observe. Gradually transition until completely switching to regular milk.
