Question

What is microcephaly, and how should parents cope with this condition?

Answer

Microcephaly refers to a situation where a child’s head circumference is more than two standard deviations below the normal value, which may be accompanied by abnormalities in head shape, such as a small and pointed crown or a narrow forehead. This condition often comes with delayed physical and intellectual development. There is currently no effective treatment method. If there are no obvious discomforts, parents do not need to be overly concerned, but they should closely monitor the child’s developmental status.
