Question
I have experienced recurrent high white blood cell and lymphocyte counts, and have undergone examinations. I hope the doctor can provide assistance.
Answer
High white blood cell and lymphocyte counts should be cautious of the possibility of lymphocytic leukemia, as well as a potential viral infection. A bone marrow biopsy is recommended for further diagnosis. Since the lymphocyte count is elevated, so is the intermediate cell count, leading to a higher overall white blood cell count (both lymphocytes and neutrophils are types of white blood cells). The actual neutrophil count is normal, but due to the elevated white blood cell total count, the proportion is lower. The red blood cell hematocrit is slightly low, but it holds little significance if other tests are normal. For women, it’s even not a big issue.
