Question
When should a baby born to a mother with hepatitis B be tested for hepatitis B? The baby has already been vaccinated against hepatitis B and received hepatitis B immune globulin.
Answer
It is recommended to have the baby tested at 6 months after birth. There is little significance in immediate testing after vaccination. With proper intervention measures, the success rate can reach over 95%. If you want to check whether the hepatitis B vaccine has been successfully administered, it is suggested to do so 20 days after completing the full course of hepatitis B vaccination. Due to individual differences, the chances of producing antibodies vary. Only 18% of people produce antibodies two weeks after the first dose, and this increases to 41% one month later; after the second dose, 80-90% of recipients produce antibodies; and after the third dose at six months, 96% of individuals develop positive antibody levels, which can remain stable for several years.
