Question
What are the manifestations of intellectual disability?
Answer
- Clumsy Movements: By the age of 3 to 5 months, a child should start playing with their hands. However, if they do not begin to play with their hands by 6 months, or if they are 2 to 3 years old and still do not like to put toys in their mouth, it is not normal. Children with clumsy movements may still kick their legs randomly after learning to walk. Their motor behaviors lack purpose, and adults may not be able to understand the child’s intentions.
- Inattention: Children may show disinterest in external objects or, although interested, quickly lose interest, with slow responses.
- Lower Abilities: Children’s language, thinking, memory, calculation, and reasoning abilities are all poorer than those of their peers. These are some common manifestations of intellectual disability. If you have any doubts about your child’s intellectual development, it is recommended to consult a neurology specialist.
