Question

I’ve been feeling unwell recently and my neck has been uncomfortable. The doctor said I might have a thyroid angioma. What is a thyroid angioma?

Answer

A thyroid angioma refers to the enlargement of one side of the thyroid gland, which may be accompanied by neck pain. The pain may be more pronounced during physical activity but will return to normal after rest. Some patients may have difficulty speaking or a hoarse voice during exercise, which could be due to the enlargement of the angioma and compression of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. It usually occurs in middle-aged individuals, with a higher incidence in females than in males, and the tumor diameter is typically less than 5 millimeters. Generally, no surgical treatment is needed, but regular checks and follow-up are recommended.
