Question

My child is just over 40 days old and has had a tumor on their neck. They cry with tears every few days. What’s going on!

Answer

Congenital lacrimal duct atresia or ectropion, or the absence of lacrimal points and ducts. This is a relatively rare congenital lacrimal duct developmental anomaly, but the lacrimal symptoms are more severe, and tears continue to flow after birth, but generally without the trouble of bacterial infection, so there is no pus. Attentive parents can find healthy eyes. There are small protuberances on the skin and red mucosal junction about 3mm from the big eye corner, with a small hole at the center of the protuberance, which is a lacrimal point. Children with this eye disease do not have these two small holes, or they have not opened. This patient needs surgery to solve the problem of crying.
