The initial symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease commonly include fever, as well as possible symptoms such as shallow breathing, difficulty breathing, altered breathing rhythm, lips turning blue, white, pink, or blood-tinged froth (phlegm) in the mouth, changes in mental state, drowsiness, headache, vomiting, easy to shock, limb tremors, weakness or paralysis. During examination, brain membrane irritation, decreased or absent tendon reflexes may be found. Severe cases may present with frequent seizures, coma, brain edema, and brain hernia.
