Question

After administering both the chicken pox and pneumonia vaccines at once, the child has been running a fever. Is this fever due to an adverse reaction between the two vaccines, or can these vaccines be administered together?

Answer

Vaccines can cause fever, and pneumonia can also cause fever. However, vaccines generally cause a low-grade fever that does not exceed 38°C. If the fever persists, it may be considered pneumonia-related. It is advisable to actively treat pneumonia with antibiotics. Generally, children with pneumonia or other diseases should avoid vaccination and should wait until they have recovered before getting vaccinated. Consideration should be given to medication reactions, and it is suggested to use physical cooling methods, such as wiping the body with 25%-50% alcohol for cooling. Alternatively, cold compresses can be applied to the forehead, wrist, and lower calf, with other parts covered by clothing.
