Question

After the baby is born, the hospital examination finds that the red blood cell count is high. What is the reason for this? How should it be handled?

Answer

It is advised to go to the hospital for a detailed examination to treat the root cause. An increased red blood cell count in newborns, with normal white blood cell and platelet counts, is usually a compensatory response of the body and does not require special treatment. After treating the primary disease, the increased red blood cell count usually resolves naturally. If the red blood cell concentration exceeds 65%, the blood viscosity will significantly increase, at which point intermittent venous bloodletting can be considered, along with blood plasma or saline replacement therapy.
