Question

My daughter wakes up several times a night, crying each time. She cries and then falls back asleep. What could be the cause of this? How should it be treated? Additional Question: (2007-11-29 9:19:58) Is this medicine bitter? If it is bitter, how should it be taken? It’s really difficult to give medicine to a child!!! Please advise.

Answer

Many children behave well during the day but become restless and cry at night. People often refer to these children as “night-cry babies.” This is a common sleep disorder during infancy. Generally, physiological crying can be due to wet diapers, being too tightly wrapped, hunger, thirst, inappropriate indoor temperature, or too thick bedding, all of which can make the child feel uncomfortable and cry. In such cases, parents should promptly eliminate the adverse stimuli, and the child will soon fall asleep peacefully. Additionally, some children will cry repeatedly when it’s time to go to bed at night. In this case, if parents can patiently soothe them to sleep, the child will quickly fall asleep soundly.
