Question

I, as a mother, feel like a failure. Today in the afternoon, I took a selfie in the living room without turning off the flashlight. The baby was lying in the crib in the bedroom, and the light from the flashlight shone through the door of the bedroom. The camera was not pointing at the baby but was exposed to the intense light. Will this have any effect on her eyes?

Answer

It’s generally safe to take photos while pregnant. However, when photographing babies, it’s best to avoid using flashlights. Babies’ retinas, especially the macula area, are in the process of development and are particularly sensitive to intense light. Moreover, there may be no symptoms immediately after injury, and symptoms may only appear later. Since babies’ eyes are delicate and not fully developed (especially for newborns), it’s difficult to judge if there are any symptoms. But occasional mishaps should be fine. It’s still recommended to be more vigilant.
