Question

After four days of birth, the newborn’s skin turns yellow, and upon examination, it is confirmed to have mild jaundice symptoms. Parents are puzzled, could this jaundice be caused by the mother?

Answer

Newborn jaundice that appears three to four days after birth and is accompanied by a good mental state and normal appetite is considered normal physiological jaundice and is not related to the mother. It is recommended to take an observation approach, encourage the baby to eat and urinate more, and monitor the jaundice index. If the jaundice subsides gradually or the index remains within the normal range, no special treatment is needed. In severe cases, blue light therapy may be considered.
