Question
What is toxemia, and my neighbor’s baby has been diagnosed with it. The parents are not very informed about it and would appreciate more information. How should toxemia be treated? Can it affect the baby?
Answer
The impact of toxemia on babies is not severe. The recommended treatment for toxemia is the use of traditional Chinese medicine, involving boiling 15 grams of honeysuckle and 5 grams of licorice in water (approximately 180 milliliters after boiling) to be administered to the baby daily. The daily dose should be at least 80 milliliters, consumed within a day. The medicine has a good taste, and if the baby dislikes it, it can be flavored with glucose. Generally, after the baby takes the medicine for about 2 to 3 days, the small red spots on the skin will gradually fade. After seven days, the number of red spots will decrease and their color will lighten, and they will completely disappear in about 10 days.
