Question

Babies are usually able to lift their heads to look up by three months old, but recently, I’ve noticed that my baby no longer does so. Could it be due to a lack of certain nutritional elements? Is it normal for a 100-day-old baby not to be able to lift their head?

Answer

Generally, babies develop a cervical lordosis around three months old, at which point neck movement becomes apparent; at six months old, they experience a thoracic lordosis and can perform actions such as sitting up independently and rolling over. By about twelve months old, the lumbar lordosis begins to form, and babies can stand and walk independently. Therefore, it is normal for a three-month-old baby to be able to lift their head to look up. Parents should pay attention to observing and avoid forcing the baby’s neck to be upright.
