Question
My baby is almost a month old now, and today when we went for a shot, they mentioned there’s a bit of jaundice. They said that frequent sunlight exposure is beneficial. I’d like to know, at what time is it suitable for my baby with jaundice to be exposed to sunlight?
Answer
Sunlight helps in the fading of jaundice, particularly effective in the blue part of the spectrum. It’s best to expose the baby to sunlight when it’s bright, such as between 10 am and 4 pm. The baby should be placed in a warm, comfortable room with ample sunlight through a large window. The indoor temperature should be between 26 to 27 degrees Celsius. For babies with sunlight-induced jaundice, they should be exposed to sunlight through glass windows to ensure their skin is fully exposed and receives more sunlight.
