Question

My baby is six months old, and during feeding, there were blood threads in the milk. Recently, the baby’s stool has also been bloody. What should I do?

Answer

If blood appears in the baby’s stool one week later, the first step is to determine whether the blood is from the intestine or anus. If it’s from the anus, it might be due to minor tears caused by dry stools. If it’s from the intestine, it could be hemorrhagic necrotizing enterocolitis. However, enterocolitis usually comes with abdominal pain and diarrhea. Since it’s not possible to diagnose the baby, it is recommended to consult a pediatrician at a children’s hospital to see if dietary adjustments are needed. In terms of diet, you can try to soften the stool and apply some medication externally. If the bleeding is caused by enterocolitis, hospitalization may be necessary.
