Question

After the baby drinks formula, it burps and then lies down and continues to vomit. Sometimes, it keeps coughing. Additional question: I’ve found a method where I don’t rush to burp the baby after feeding; instead, I hold it for a while longer, and make sure the milk isn’t cold; it should be warm!

Answer

It’s normal for a baby to cough occasionally after feeding, but if it coughs frequently and does so after vomiting, it usually requires attention. It could suggest that the baby has a gastrointestinal disorder, commonly known as indigestion. Or, the baby’s abdomen might be feeling cold. In these instances, you can apply a warm towel or hot water bottle to the baby’s abdomen; if the coughing is due to a cold, this can help ease the symptoms. Moreover, avoid letting the baby cry violently before feeding, as swallowing too much air can result in vomiting and coughing.
