Question
The newborn is experiencing rapid breathing and has been diagnosed with suspected neonatal wet lung. How should treatment be conducted?
Answer
Neonatal wet lung is a self-limiting disease that usually does not require special treatment. For cases with severe symptoms, the treatment measures include:
- Strengthen nursing care and temperature control, ensuring daily energy intake of at least 209kj/kg (50kcal/kg) and total fluid volume maintained at 60-80ml/kg.
- Employ intermittent oxygen supply; it is not recommended to use continuous positive airway pressure to avoid exacerbating pulmonary emphysema. When an infant shows discomfort, immediate medical examination and treatment should be sought.
