Question
A newborn has recently been diagnosed with empyema meningitis and is experiencing fever and seizures during the treatment process. What should be done for the treatment? What should be noted during the treatment process?
Answer
The prognosis for neonates with mild empyema meningitis is generally good, but early neonatal death and sequelae of brain nerve damage are the main risks of poor prognosis in the near and long term. Therefore, it is recommended to control infection and initiate treatment promptly. For viral meningitis, antiviral therapy should be administered, with commonly used drugs including acyclovir or ganciclovir. If there are obvious symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and increased intracranial pressure, mannitol dehydration and hormones should also be administered to reduce brain edema.
