Question

Is neonatal cytomegalovirus infection a common phenomenon?

Answer

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection can lead to multisystem diseases, with liver dysfunction particularly common. After antiviral treatment, some CMV infections may be difficult to convert to negative, necessitating long-term antiviral and liver protection therapy. It is recommended to check the mother’s CMV infection status. After determining the route of infection, treatment should be administered, but the virus should be cleared first, such as through secretion virus isolation, and CMV antigens should be checked. If the test results show that CMV inclusions or specific CMV DNA fragments are found in the centrifugation of tissues and urine, it can indicate the presence of cytomegalovirus infection.
