Question
Every night before I go to sleep, I feel pain in the back of my throat and it hurts when I swallow saliva. I often have to tilt my head up or down, and it makes me dizzy. I’m not sure what to do about it. Could you please tell me what could be causing this sore throat and excessive saliva?
Answer
Pain in the throat and pain when swallowing saliva are typically symptoms of acute pharyngitis. However, if the sore throat occurs only before bedtime, it might be chronic pharyngitis. Chronic pharyngitis can manifest as dryness, itching, soreness in the throat, a feeling of foreign body in the throat, and stimulating cough among other symptoms. If you talk a lot during the day or are exposed to dust and other irritants, these factors may worsen the symptoms. It is recommended that you can take some anti-inflammatory and antiviral drugs for treatment based on your description.
