Question

My baby just turned a month old, and there are many red spots on the forehead, with whiteheads, and also on the cheeks. People say it’s eczema, and I covered it up. I bought medicine for the child, and now I want to ask if the baby can wash their face with water? What is the best way to handle it?

Answer

Baby eczema is usually caused by the baby’s allergic constitution, which easily triggers skin sensitivity, leading to eczema. Generally, topical medications can be used since the baby is too young to take oral medications. Typically, you can clean the eczema areas with cold water using conventional Chinese medicine. If there are prominent red rashes associated with inflammatory eczema, soft corticosteroid medications can be used. If the eczema is accompanied by patchy oozing, you can apply cold compresses with physiological saline or cool decoctions of chrysanthemum flowers.
