Question

Will there be any complications after the child’s strabismus surgery? We are very concerned and hope the doctor can give some advice.

Answer

Strabismus can be corrected with surgery, and generally, there are no complications after a successful operation. Strabismus correction surgery is a mature and relatively safe procedure that does not affect vision. The surgery is performed on the outside of the eye, and as long as the patient cooperates and does not move around, it will not affect vision. Only a small number of patients may experience slight fluctuations in vision in the short term due to factors such as swelling and traction of the extraocular muscles, which is a normal postoperative reaction. Vision typically returns to normal within about a month after surgery.
