Question
My child has a high fever, and the doctor diagnosed it as infectious mononucleosis. Is high fever a symptom of infectious mononucleosis?
Answer
When a virus enters the bloodstream, leading to toxic blood syndrome, it then begins to damage various tissues and organs of the lymphatic system. B cells are often the first to be attacked because they have receptors for the Epstein-Barr virus (CD21) on their surface. Particularly in the acute phase, one out of every 100 B lymphocytes is infected with the virus, while in the recovery phase, only one out of every million B lymphocytes is infected. In the control of infection, cellular immunity may play a more important role than humoral immunity. It is recommended to pay more attention to rest and have a light diet.
