Question

A child experienced a seizure after a high fever of 39.7 degrees Celsius, following two days of vomiting in large amounts from the mouth and nose. After undergoing CT scans, ECG, EEG, ultrasound, blood tests, and cerebrospinal fluid tests at the hospital, it was found that the protein levels were slightly elevated, the EEG showed slight slowing, and other indicators were normal. The child had just taken anesthetic medication before the EEG examination. Would this affect the results of the EEG?

Answer

Encephalitis is usually caused by a virus and is common in children. Symptoms include chills, fever, headache, vomiting, altered consciousness, seizures, and possible cranial nerve palsy, paralysis of limbs, and psychiatric symptoms such as hallucinations, hearing voices, psychosis, speech disorders, excitement and agitation, and depression. Signs may include meningeal irritation signs and pathological reflexes of the pyramidal tract. Cerebrospinal fluid examination shows increased pressure, with a colorless and transparent appearance, slightly elevated protein levels, normal sugar and chloride levels. Treatment mainly involves symptomatic and supportive therapy.
