Question
Hello: My baby is 22 days old and has been a bit fussy with feeding from the start. The condition has worsened recently, almost every feeding session, sometimes even when they fall asleep and wake up. There have been two particularly severe episodes. Since then, the baby’s mouth often feels sticky, and they have difficulty swallowing, looking quite uncomfortable. Sometimes it comes out of their nose. What should I do?
Answer
The baby has been experiencing persistent vomiting and runny nose for over 20 days without a fever. This may be related to the baby’s underdevelopment. You can try thinning the formula milk and feeding your baby more frequently. Remember, the baby is only 22 days old and is still in the neonatal period. Their stomach structure is different from adults, being flatter and with a smaller capacity, making it easy to vomit or feel uncomfortable after eating a lot. If the baby’s vomiting symptoms have worsened in recent days, consider it could be due to dyspepsia or a cold. If there are no other symptoms, it’s not recommended to give them medication immediately. After feeding, try to keep the baby upright for a while to promote faster entry of food into the intestines.
