Question

My baby just gave birth, and the baby has neonatal jaundice. How should I observe the jaundice at home?

Answer

At home, we need to conduct multiple observations and measurements. If the baby shows jaundice within 3 days of birth, you can visually observe the extent of the baby’s skin jaundice by placing the baby under natural light. If only the face shows jaundice or it is only mild, you can continue to observe at home; if the trunk skin also shows jaundice, it is considered moderate jaundice; if the extremities, hands, feet, and heart area also show jaundice, it is severe jaundice. In this case, you should take the baby to the hospital for a check-up.
