Question

What are the consequences of severe anemia in newborns?

Answer

For infants between 2 and 3 months old, if anemia is caused by physiological intrauterine iron deficiency, it is recommended to take iron supplements such as Fulsun and observe their reaction. At the same time, vitamin C should be taken to promote iron absorption, and an increase in the intake of iron-rich foods such as meats, liver, and spinach is advised. Congenital iron deficiency may originate from the mother’s severe iron-deficiency anemia during pregnancy, leading to the baby’s increased susceptibility to anemia; premature infants and twins are also more prone to anemia. Additionally, if there is placental vascular rupture or excessive bleeding during delivery, the baby may also develop anemia.
