Question

Will a newborn’s eyes turn yellow with jaundice?

Answer

Newborn jaundice usually appears within 2-3 days after birth, with the peak period being 5-6 days. The bilirubin levels in full-term infants typically return to normal within 2 to 4 weeks. Jaundice of the skin and mucous membranes can lead to yellowing of the eyes, and when the bilirubin level exceeds 12, the likelihood of yellow eyes becomes very high. After phototherapy or treatment, the bilirubin levels significantly decrease, and the yellowing of the eyes will gradually return to normal.
