Question

What Are the Signs of Neonatal Jaundice?

Answer

Based on the results of the cranial MRI, there is a patchy T1 low, T2 low signal shadow on the lateral ventricular parietal side, with a surrounding annular high signal that may be related to nuclear jaundice. Nuclear jaundice is a group of serious neonatal diseases characterized by jaundice due to congenital and/or neonatal constitutional factors and a large number of nucleated red blood cells in the blood. This is accompanied by neurological symptoms due to the harmful effects of bilirubin on the central nervous system. Early treatment focuses on reducing serum unconjugated bilirubin levels, which can be achieved through intravenous fluid replacement to provide calories, along with intravenous albumin or plasma infusion, dexamethasone, oral phenobarbital, nicotine, 10% activated charcoal solution, and pectin. Phototherapy and blood transfusion are also used.
