Question

My baby, who is ten days old, has been showing signs of eating less, excessive sleepiness, and sometimes staring without moving the eyes. They only move their eyes when someone pinches their face. After being taken to the hospital, the doctor said the baby has newborn pneumonia, moderate newborn jaundice, and intracranial hemorrhage.

Answer

Newborn pneumonia is a serious illness that requires a minimum of 7-10 days of treatment, and for severe cases, it may take longer. Additionally, if there are complications like intracranial hemorrhage, there is a need for (hemostasis) and to prevent seizures, as well as to nourish brain cells. After the newborn treatment period, to prevent post-injury brain damage (post-intracranial hemorrhage sequelae) in the early stage, regular follow-ups should be scheduled during the neonatal period. When administering antibiotics for inflammation recovery, the treatment course should be sufficient and the dosage should be determined based on the severity. The dosage for sepsis and meningitis is larger; otherwise, the inflammation may not be controlled, leading to recurrent conditions and the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
