Question

My child has a cold recently, and the doctor at the hospital said it’s pneumonia. I want to ask how can we distinguish between neonatal pneumonia and a cold? What are the obvious symptoms of pneumonia?

Answer

Fever: Most patients experience an increase in body temperature. Cough: It starts with frequent, irritating dry cough, followed by phlegm rattle in the throat. Coughing may be accompanied by vomiting and milk aspiration. Respiratory surface is shallow and rapid, with the nose flaring. Some children may have mild cyanosis of the mouth and fingernails. In addition to respiratory symptoms, children may also experience general symptoms such as lack of energy, irritability, loss of appetite, shivering, and diarrhea.
