Question

I have ADHD, and I’ve noticed that my child shows some signs of ADHD. Can ADHD be a hereditary condition?

Answer

Although the exact cause of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) remains unclear, there are still many children around us who suffer from ADHD. However, research has found that childhood ADHD is closely related to genetics, with genetics being one of the primary causes of ADHD. Surveys show that ADHD has a significant familial clustering, with the prevalence rate among first-degree relatives being 5-7 times higher than the general population, and the rate among second-degree relatives also increasing. If one parent has ADHD, there is a 50% chance that their child may also have ADHD.
