Question
Parents often feel worried about the treatment situation of neonatal jaundice involving the brain. Is it easy to treat? What are the causes?
Answer
The treatment of neonatal jaundice is indeed challenging. Generally, jaundice appears within 2 to 3 days after birth and reaches its peak between 5 to 6 days. The jaundice in full-term infants usually subsides within 2 to 3 weeks after birth. If the bilirubin level exceeds 12, it should be considered pathological jaundice. When the bilirubin level exceeds 15, phototherapy is required. In case of bilirubin brain disease, there may be sequelae, and nutritional neuron therapy should be used at this point. It is recommended that parents closely monitor their baby’s jaundice situation and seek medical attention promptly for early recovery.
