Question
What to Do About Newborn Jaundice?
Answer
Newborns typically experience jaundice within 1-2 days and reach a peak in 3-4 days, which usually subsides within a week. Jaundice can be treated with blue or fluorescent lights, but the child’s eyes must be covered or the lights used daily. Sunbathing for half an hour is recommended, avoiding direct eye contact with the child. In severe cases, the child can be given oral silver sulfate suspension for treatment and some plain water to drink.
