Question

My son has already started kindergarten, but there’s a problem that has been bothering me – he still wets the bed. Basically, every other morning, I wake up to find the sheets soaked. I think it might be due to an incomplete development of some bodily function. So, I’m asking the doctor, what can be done about a 5-year-old boy who still wets the bed?

Answer

From a long-term perspective, if this happens multiple times, it’s important to get the child up to urinate at night. Five-year-olds are still relatively young and their bladder capacity is smaller. It’s necessary to wake up and urinate one or two times at night. If the child is over six years old, it usually gets better. If the child is still over six years old, consider taking them to the hospital for a urine test. A routine urological ultrasound examination should also be followed by a CT scan to rule out the possibility of a hidden spinal bifida.
