Question

My daughter has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. She has not received any treatment yet. Now, she has stiffness in her left arm, unsteady walking, difficulty speaking and eating with her head shaking. The more tense she gets, the more unclear her speech becomes. What are the symptoms of Down syndrome?

Answer

Down syndrome, also known as 21-triploidy, is a congenital birth defect disease caused by genetic factors, influenced by the parents’ own genetic genes, which are currently factors that human medicine cannot change. However, reasonable genetic counseling, enhancing prenatal care, and reducing the pregnancy rate of elderly pregnant women are effective measures to reduce the incidence of this disease. There is currently no effective treatment for this condition, and long-term patient education and training should be provided for the child. Prevention of infectious diseases and various communicable diseases is also recommended.
