Question

My baby is now 2.5 years old and is usually very lively. However, since he started speaking, I’ve noticed a significant issue – he stutters. What should I do if my 2.5-year-old child stutters?

Answer

Eliminate negative stimuli that cause children to feel tense. Stuttering in children is often caused by psychological tension. Therefore, it’s important to minimize the influence of factors that cause psychological tension in children. Avoid scolding or spanking the child, and especially do not reprimand the child because of their stuttering. Foster a harmonious and peaceful family atmosphere. Let the child live in a relaxed and happy environment. Currently, stuttering treatments are mostly focused on non-pharmaceutical methods, including speech training, psychological therapy, biofeedback devices, changing voice production methods, delayed auditory feedback techniques, and sound masking techniques, among others.
