Question

I recently read about the symptoms of children with cerebral palsy online and felt quite worried. I’ve noticed that my baby is less active, seems to lack strength, and sometimes has convulsive episodes. Are these symptoms of cerebral palsy? I’m scared to go to the hospital and worry about the outcome not being as expected.

Answer

Clinically, the common symptoms of cerebral palsy are mainly manifested as delayed motor development, such as slower large movements like lifting the head, sitting up, crawling, standing, and walking compared to normal children. Fine motor skills of the fingers also lag behind normal children. Early symptoms may include persistent crying, difficulty sleeping, sensitivity to sound and posture changes, difficulties with feeding and care, and abnormalities appearing during growth. These are often accompanied by intellectual disabilities, language, visual impairments. It is recommended that if there is any doubt, one should seek timely medical advice.
