Question

I had sequelae from pediatric polio. I’ve had a slight limp while walking, but no other obvious symptoms. However, in the past two years, I’ve noticed a significant decrease in strength in both lower limbs. Could this be the progression of my polio sequelae?

Answer

Polio is a disease caused by the polio virus. If the disease is cured in time and no sequelae are left behind, it is not considered to be sequelae of pediatric polio. Sequelae of polio typically occur when the child has not fully recovered and experiences muscle atrophy, joint deformities, limb abnormalities, and difficulty walking. Symptoms that appear two years after the onset of the disease are usually considered sequelae of polio. In your case, the weakness in your lower limbs may be related to an underlying condition, possibly indicating a weakening of lower limb nerve function.
