Question
What Are the Symptoms of Neonatal Cerebral Palsy?
Answer
Due to the variety of symptoms that neonatal cerebral palsy patients may exhibit, we will first discuss some common symptoms, including abnormal reflexes, abnormal muscle tone, and abnormal posture.
- Abnormal reflexes: Normally, an infant’s head will suddenly lower and exhibit a Moro reflex (as if startled) when it is startled. This reflex typically disappears after 6 months, but in cerebral palsy patients, this reflex does not disappear. There are also various other abnormal reflexes.
- Abnormal muscle tone: One of the main symptoms is that the patient’s muscle tone is either lower or higher than normal, but this is more pronounced among the four early symptoms.
- Abnormal posture: Cerebral palsy patients often show a backward tilt of the head, leaning backward in a sitting position at 6 months, tightly crossed legs, frequent urination, and difficulty in eating. These are some common symptoms of neonatal cerebral palsy. Other symptoms may need to be analyzed according to specific situations.
