Question

I am O-negative blood type, and my husband is A-positive blood type. I’ve read online that in such cases, the first child may not get jaundice, but the second child is more likely to. Is this claim scientific? Since I wasn’t married before, we aborted our first child, and now I’m very afraid that having another child will have an impact.

Answer

Neonatal jaundice is a normal phenomenon, usually disappearing around 10 days after birth. There’s no need to worry; I believe neonatal jaundice is not related to previous pregnancies, and not all neonates with ABO blood type incompatibility will experience hemolytic disease, with a certain possibility (generally a 11.9% incidence rate). Wishing you health!
