Question

My child is already 18 days old and their face is still yellow, although it is fading day by day, but the fading speed is very slow. Is this related to breastfeeding, is it an abnormal phenomenon, and do we need to seek medical attention or medication treatment? 2. The mother’s nipple is quite large, and the child finds it very difficult to suckle.

Answer

  1. Neonatal physiological jaundice occurs between 2 to 3 days after birth and gradually fades within about a month. As long as the baby’s jaundice gradually disappears, there is no need to worry. Jaundice from breastfeeding will improve significantly after stopping breastfeeding. Currently, considering physiological jaundice, you can let the baby drink some glucose water, which also helps in the fading of jaundice.
  2. Regarding your mother’s nipple, it has no effect on the baby, but this is temporary and laborious. This is not a regression in the baby’s oral cavity.
