Question

My sister’s child has not been very healthy since he was very young, showing signs of retardation. One time, when he had a severe fever, they took him to the hospital for a check-up and discovered he had pediatric cerebral palsy. They are very scared, why would such a young child have this disease?

Answer

The occurrence of cerebral palsy can severely impact both children and their families. Experts here remind parents of children with cerebral palsy that scientific treatment for these children holds the promise of recovery, while inappropriate or delayed treatment can lead to lifelong disability. Currently, conventional treatment methods for children with cerebral palsy include surgery, medication, rehabilitation training, traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, and physical therapy massage. However, we do not know if these treatments can fundamentally cure cerebral palsy and prevent its progression. The treatment of the child’s condition does not ensure complete improvement of symptoms.
