Question

Our child is just over three years old and has just been diagnosed with Down syndrome. We haven’t decided where to seek treatment yet. What are the best treatment methods available, and how can we find one suitable for our child’s young age?

Answer

Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a congenital defect caused by a common chromosomal abnormality. It affects intelligence, physical development, and facial features, and may be accompanied by other malformations. There is currently no effective treatment method. However, you can provide your child with long-term patient education and training to help them reach their maximum potential. Additionally, preventing infections and early supplementation with vitamin B6 may help improve function. For other malformations associated with Down syndrome, surgical correction can be considered.
