Question
Dear doctors, my child is 4 years and 2 months old. When I bathed my child on the night of the 2nd, I noticed that the left breast was slightly larger than the right one. On the 3rd, I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the blood test results showed a luteinizing hormone level of 0.56, with other results being normal. The left hand was in a standard 4-year-old girl’s bone age according to the radiograph.
Answer
Based on your description, abdominal ultrasound and bone age radiographs do not support precocious puberty. From the breast ultrasound, it shows one side of the breast is developing. Currently, you can observe and try to avoid eating foods and supplements containing hormones. If it can’t be controlled, you will continue to develop magnetic resonance imaging. It’s normal for girls to start puberty at 8 years old. A slight enlargement of one nipple at 3 years old should be considered simple breast premature development, which will gradually regress; in some cases, it may develop into true precocious puberty. All girls start puberty with breast development. If the height is within the normal range, breast development starting at 8 years old is normal.
